Spring Planting Parties!

Peace Pole in Honor of Peace Makers

This Peace Pole is given in memory of Eric Swanfeldt & Emmet Jarrett with whom we Peace Makers and fellow pilgrims made a Peace Walk encompassing every state in New England, years 2008-2012. It included a delegation from Nicaragua on one section of the walk.

Our annual Peace Walks were from 2 weeks to 2 months in duration. We stopped each night at a house of worship for soup and conversation about Peace in our day; deeds of peace carried out in that congregation and/or locality. Our hosts welcomed us with space to sleep on their pews or church floor and a simple soup supper. We concluded each year’s walk at the mosque in Groton followed by walking across the Gold Star bridge to All Souls Unitarian Universalist congregation in New London, arriving for morning worship.

In 2017, inspired by All Souls member Nick Evento, another Peace Walk was undertaken. We walked from New London to Newtown, CT, in memory of the tragic Sandy Hook school shooting. This walk was 2 weeks long.
