Exploring Membership
Whether you’ve visited All Souls once, a few times, or are beginning to feel at home here, the membership committee invites you to participate in our Exploring Membership Series.
We’ve designed the Exploring Membership Series to inform and get to know each other. There’s no pressure… just a sincere invitation to consider membership. And should you require it, we’ll include childcare free of charge.
We offer this series twice a year to provide more information to those who may be considering membership.
There are two sessions in each series, and it is important to attend both of them to get a full picture of what membership entails.
The History of All Souls, New London, CT
All Souls Church came to be with the merger of two New London churches in 1907 – the First Universalist Society (Universalists believed that all human souls would attain salvation) which formed circa 1835 and the Unitarian Society of New London (Unitarians believed that God is One – no Trinity) whose earlist recorded meeting was in 1895. The Universalists built their first church on Huntington Street in 1849 and in subsequent years apparently had financial difficulties that lead to changing their quarters three of four times prior to the merger with what possibly was a shrinking congregation.
A Welcoming Congregation
Officially recognized as a Welcoming Congregation, All Souls Unitarian Universalist Congregation is a safe space for bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender persons; to take positions on oppression in our larger community; and to accomplish outreach.
