What do kids learn in Unitarian Universalist Religious Education?
We have in place curricula that encourage the curiosities of our children and youth about the world. We try to help them make meaning of their experiences in ways they can understand. We teach the stories of our Judeo-Christian heritage and other faith traditions to plant the seeds for religious thinking.
As they grow older, we introduce a spectrum of religious perspectives because Unitarian Universalist faith believes that truth has not been finally delivered. There are many paths to the divine around the world, and all claim to have some knowledge about the larger questions that all human beings ask—the mysteries surrounding our existence. We try to instill in our children that asking questions is vastly more fruitful to discovery than memorizing answers and assuming there is no more to be done.
This is our philosophy. We are a non-credal faith. We embrace change. Our faith, like our bodies and our personalities, are ever-evolving. Above all, we teach our children that all cultures have value because all people have value.
