RE News from Under the Rainbow ...
Perry's Ponderings
(The following is excerpted from the monthly Newsletter)
This is where the Director of Religious Education typically writes a column. As
we are in an “in-between time”, here are a few words from the
Minister.
I want to keep you all abreast of the search process. The board
has charged a committee to identify either an interim DRE, or, if that search
proves fruitless, to identify an administrator who will do just that – provide
administrative / organizational support for the RE ministry for the 07-08 year.
The committee has decided to wait until the first week of August to see if
an interim may be identified. Thereafter, “Plan B” is in
effect i.e. – a search for an administrator. It has been determined
that, if the latter plan is put into place, the administrator need not be a
Unitarian Universalist and we would simply place a want-ad in local papers.
Either way, the hope is that there will be staff support for the RE ministry
by the third week of August. We will keep you updated through the weekly
e-blast in the time between the August and September newsletter.
In the meantime, I send a personal invitation to each and every one of you
to help support the children and youth at this time.
In other August news …
Coming of Age will kick-off with an August retreat at the Voluntown Peace Trust. There
are six youth participating in the program this year which will culminate in
a Coming of Age service in January. Stay tuned for details!

Religious Education
Pre-K - 12
The Unitarian Universalist approach ....
Our religious education program seeks to help a child discover
a religion that
- grows as the child grows
- answers his or her present needs and understandings
- develops with the child's increasing maturity
- gives him or her a fellowship with all living beings, a reverence for life,
strength to meet the problems of our world, and the serenity of being at
one with the universe.
We seek to place at his or her disposal
- the wisdom of the ages
- the inspiration and heritage of traditional religions
- the discoveries of today and the dreams of tomorrow
We aim
- to guide children in a natural development of religious faith based primarily
on their own direct experience
- to help the child realize that just as she or he is a person of value and
importance, so is every other member of the human race.
