Homeless Hospitality Center

Things are moving along nicely at the Hospitality Center.  Air conditioners have been installed to combat the Krag Wing's stifling heat.  And you may have noticed a portable basketball hoop that's been set up in the parking lot allowing for some summertime fun.

About 70 people visit the Hospitality Center on any given day.  That number represents the number of guests who pass through during the course of the day (the Center is open from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM) and not the total number of people who are there at the same time. (During the winter months, that number is higher, usually about 75 – 80 people.)  The Center sees @180 different individuals over the course of the month.

All Souls continues to offer showers to guests five days a week, two days of which are night showers.  Beginning in July, there will be a need for volunteers to staff the Tuesday night showers from 7:30 PM – @8:45PM.  (From September – June the building is already open at that time as it is when the choir rehearses.)  Staffing entails unlocking the doors; setting up the towels and toiletries and then locking afterwards.  HHC sends a staff person to supervise.  It's an easy way to help out with and support All Souls' ministry to homeless men and women.  If you are interested in learning more or are prepared to say yes and take one Tuesday in July & one Tuesday in August (or more!), please call Arlene in the office at: 443.0316.

There will be a significant change at the overnight shelter hosted by St. James Episcopal Church.  Many of you know that the shelter has been set up in the community room these past three years.  Beginning in July, the shelter will be set up in the basement.  It's a very different space set up from the community room but with the help of an architect and designer, the HHC staff and volunteers have made the space work quite nicely.

Again, if you have questions feel free to contact Board of Trustees Vice President, George Dowker as George is All Souls' liaison to HHC.

Thanks for your continued support!  (And think about volunteering!)
